‘The next week or so’ – Reporter shares insight on Leeds United’s pursuit of Sheffield United midfielder

Leeds United continue to be linked with Sheffield United’s Sander Berge, with a potentially crucial week ahead for the two clubs.

Berge, 24, has emerged as a transfer target for Leeds United. The Norwegian international impressed in the Championship last season scoring six goals and assisting four in his 33 league outings.

The bulk of his goals came in the final weeks of the season with Berge really reminding Blades fans of his quality during the final run-in, and eventually helping his side claim a top-six finish.

GiveMeSport previously revealed that Leeds are keen on Berge and that the Sheffield United man could be available for around £25million this summer.

Now, GiveMeSport has revealed that the next seven days could be crucial for both Leeds United and Sheffield United, with transfer insider Dean Jones saying:

“Let’s see if they can make any headway on it. I think, over the next week or so, it will be interesting to see if Sheffield United start to cave in, if you like.”

Blades’ stance…

Sheffield United have made a slow start to this summer’s transfer window. But writing in a recent Q&A, ExaminerLive’s Nathan Hemmingham said that the club’s summer transfer business doesn’t depend on player sales, and so Sheffield United don’t need to sell Berge this summer.

Paul Heckingbottom has transfer funds available but if the right offer comes in for Berge, then it might be too difficult to turn down.

Berge’s fitness record is a cause for concern and he was also inconsistent at times last season, but on the whole he remains a key player for Sheffield United.

We could yet see Leeds United make a move for Berge over the next week or so, according to Jones. Sheffield United won’t ‘cave in’ as he says because they don’t need to sell Berge this summer, but an offer of £25million could easily see the Blades move Berge on.
