Stoke City are interested in St. Johnstone’s out of contract goalkeeper Zander Clark, as per a report from The Sun.
Stoke City have wasted no time in making some fresh additions in the early stages of the transfer window.
Josh Laurent, Aden Flint and Harry Clarke (loan) have already made their way through the doors. Now, it has been claimed that Potters boss Michael O’Neill now has his eyes on a new man in between the sticks.
As per The Sun, St. Johnstone’s out of contract shot-stopper Clark has emerged as a Stoke City transfer target.
It is said that the 30-year-old will be moving on from McDiarmid Park when his current deal runs out. That leaves the door open for him to negotiate with potential suitors in a bid to find a new club ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Moreover, Dundee United have made an offer for Clark. However, a move to a new league is said to be intriguing to the ‘keeper, seemingly handing Stoke City an advantage should their interest develop into an offer.
Stoke City’s goalkeeping options
Joe Bursik and Jack Bonham battled it out for a starting spot last season, both presenting solid options in goal. Frank Fielding remains on the books too, as does youngster Blondy Nna Noukeu.
It’s hardly an area the Potters are light on the ground then, but Clark could still be an interesting option.
Although he is still waiting on his Scotland debut, Clark has been in Steve Clarke’s squad for much of the past year or so.
His form at club level earned him a first call-up back in September 2021. Across all competitions, the ‘keeper has managed 73 clean sheets in 210 games for St. Johnstone but now, a new chapter beckons, and Stoke City are keen.
