Presenting the inside scoop on the latest Football League news

Michael Appleton wants to bring Lincoln City star to Blackpool

Blackpool’s new boss Michael Appleton wants to bring Lincoln City star Anthony Scully to Bloomfield Road with him, it has been claimed.

Lincoln City made the decision to part ways with Appleton at the end of last season and since then, he has returned to Bloomfield Road to become Blackpool manager for a second time.

The Tangerines are yet to make their breakthrough in the transfer window this summer. However, now, it has been claimed Appleton has a familiar face on his radar.

Football League World has reported that the Blackpool boss is keen to bring Lincoln City star Scully up to Lancashire.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed the best football of his career to date with the Imps under Appleton’s management. Since his arrival from West Ham back in 2020, Scully has managed an impressive 33 goals and 17 assists in 97 outings. The 2021/22 campaign saw him conjure up an impressive 22 goal contributions, netting 15 times and providing seven assists in 39 appearances.

Championship ready?

The former Republic of Ireland youth international has certainly proven himself in League One.

His performances for the Imps were important in helping them stay clear of the relegation fight last season and at 23, he has plenty of time to develop and improve too.

Scully can operate anywhere across the front three if needs be. However, he is at his most dangerous when playing on the left and cutting in on his favoured right foot, often causing havoc for League One defenders.

A player of his quality likely wouldn’t come cheap and it remains to be seen if Blackpool’s interest develops into anything serious, but he could prove to be a clever signing for Appleton and co this summer.
