Latest Charlton Athletic news: Midfielder linked, Addicks want departing Sheffield Wednesday man + more

Ben Garner’s Charlton Athletic rebuild looks to be taking shape this week.

Charlton Athletic have signed a second former Swindon Town player since Garner’s arrival, with Jojo Wollacott being announced as the Addicks’ latest signing yesterday.

He joins Mandela Egbo as the second former Robin to join Garner at The Valley.

And Garner’s backroom staff is coming together too with Scott Marshall arriving as the club’s new first-team Assistant Coach.

The summer ahead could be a busy one by the looks of it for Charlton and another name linked with a move to the club is Chey Dunkley.

Centre-half Dunkley, 29, is set to be released by Sheffield Wednesday at the end of this month and reports today have linked him with a potential move to Charlton Athletic.

Meanwhile, Garner is set for another Swindon Town raid with reports backing the Addicks boss to move for midfielder Louis Reed.

Lastly, one player who will be leaving Charlton this summer is full-back Ben Purrington, and this week he’s been linked with League One duo Exeter City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Thomas Sandgaard’s sacking Johnnie Jackson was met with a lot of criticism from Charlton fans, and his later appointment of Garner had its critics too.

But so far Garner has made positive strides in this summer’s transfer window, giving fans hope for the upcoming 2022/23 League One campaign.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Addicks fair in what is set to be one of the most competitive third tier rosters in history, with some huge names battling for promotion next season.
