Presenting the inside scoop on the latest Football League news

Watford linked with 3 potential new signings ahead of July including ‘clinical’ Swansea City man

Watford have a pivotal summer ahead of them, following their relegation from the Premier League.

Watford have enjoyed a number of promotions in recent years. But they’ve also suffered a number of relegations and seen a host of managers come and go.

Rob Edwards is now the man at the helm. He was appointed last month after guiding Forest Green Rovers to the League Two title and it seems like a wildcard appointment from the Hornets, with this kind of appointment needing time to pay dividends.

And after a slow start to the summer transfer window it seems like Watford are closing in on their first signing. Watford Observer say that Vakoun Bayo is set to sign in a £5million deal and the former Celtic man will give Edwards a solid options in the Championship, but it looks like more strikers are wanted.

Edwards has revealed that he identified a number of striker options, perhaps in case the likes of Emmanuel Dennis and/or Ismaila Sarr leave this summer.

Another name looking set to move to Vicarage Road is Luigi Gaspar.

The youngster is the son of former Arsenal man Edu, but Gaspar is being released by the Gunners and reports say that he’s set to join Watford on a free transfer.

And today, The Athletic has revealed that Watford have an interest in Swansea City striker Joel Piroe.

The Dutchman scored 22 goals in the Championship last time round, proving to be a huge hit in what was his first campaign in English football.

He’s been linked with a number of clubs this summer, with Watford being the latest.

Speaking about Piroe back in April after a 1-0 win against Millwall in the Championship, Swansea City boss Russell Martin said:

“If you wanted it to fall to anyone, it is him, he is so clinical with both feet, and he is a great technician

“But the most important thing he has is the right mentality when he gets around the goal. He shows composure, he is calm, and he just focuses on his technique, something that all top strikers possess.”

Watford then are involved in some exciting transfer stories of late. The club has a bit of building to do after another tough season in the top flight, but Edwards is an up and coming manager with an eye for attacking football which could be an ideal match for this current crop of Watford players.
