Millwall in talks over deal for out of favour Sheffield United man

Millwall are in talks with Championship rivals Sheffield United over a possible permanent deal for forward Oli Burke, the South London Press has said.

Sheffield United sent Burke to Millwall back in January, giving him the chance to play some regular football away from Bramall Lane.

That’s exactly what he got too, featuring 14 times for the Lions. A hamstring injury limited his action over February and March but he performed well after his return, netting two goals and laying on one assist.

Now, with the summer transfer window open, the Lions are taking steps towards bringing Burke back for good.

The South London Press says Millwall and Sheffield United are in talks over a possible permanent move for the former Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig man.

Burke seemingly does not figure in Paul Heckingbottom’s plans moving forward, so a permanent exit could be beneficial for all.

A Den return?

At 25, the Kircaldy native will be determined to settle and kick on somewhere, and if he won’t get the chance to do so at Sheffield United, Millwall could be a good destination.

He will already know what manager Gary Rowett demands of him having spent time on loan with the club last season.

The action he got during his time at The Den may well reassure him that he has a good chance of regular game time as well, something that has been sparse in his time on the books with Sheffield United.

Burke has played 36 times since joining the Blades from West Brom in the summer of 2020. In the process, he has managed two goals and one assist.
