Middlesbrough and Sunderland dealt blow in pursuit of Leicester City man

Middlesbrough and Sunderland are both in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

Middlesbrough have already announced the signing of Northampton Town shot stopper Liam Roberts on a two-year deal, but they are looking to bring in another goalkeeper as first-choice.

The Teessiders, along with their North-East neighbours Sunderland have identified Leicester City’s Daniel Iversen as a potential new recruit.

The Dane played in the Championship last season with Preston North End, and impressed in his loan spell at Deepdale. With him having returned to Leicester City, and unlikely to be able to dislodge Kasper Schmeichel as the Foxes’ number one, several sides have Iversen on their radar this transfer window.

However, fresh reports state that the 24-year-old wishes to remain at the King Power Stadium in order to compete with Schmeichel and Danny Ward.

This is contradictory to previous reports, which had stated that Leicester City were prepared to entertain offers, whether permanent or loan bids.

Having signed from Esbjerg in 2016 as an 18-year-old, he has yet to make a single appearance in any competition for Leicester City. He has been sent out on a total of five loan deals since 2018, plying his trade for Oldham Athletic, Rotherham United, Belgian outfit OH Leuven, and most recently Preston North End.

Despite not playing for the Foxes, he has experience in the EFL, and has also played numerous times for Denmark’s international side at youth level. Iversen has played for all age groups from U16 up to U21 for the Red and Whites.
