3 players QPR must tie down to new deals sooner rather than later

QPR begin a new era going into the 2022/23 season, with Michael Beale now the man at the helm.

And Beale has kicked off his opening pre-season with the club by bringing in Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal on free transfers, with fans hopeful of seeing a few more fresh faces walk through the doors this summer.

But the R’s also have a handful of players who may attract transfer interest this summer, and a few who are coming to the end of their stays in 2023.

Here we look at three players QPR must tie down to new deals sooner rather than later…

Chris Willock

Willock was a standout player for QPR last season. Before his injury which helped derail QPR’s season, Willock scored seven goals and assisted 11, proving to be a hugely important player for the R’s.

He’s out of contract next summer but QPR have the option to extend his stay by a further year.

The former Arsenal man is set to return to action at the start of next season and if he impresses once again, and improves his game under Beale, QPR will surely trigger that one-year extension, but that might not be enough to keep him at the club long-term.

Sinclair Armstrong

The promising young striker looks to be slowly working his way towards the QPR first-team. He spent time out on loan last season with the likes of Torquay United and Aldershot Town and scored a handful of goals across the campaign, but it remains to be seen what Beale makes of him going into the 2022/23 season.

At 19 years old he might still be a way off first-team contention. Armstrong though signed an 18-month contract extension in February last year and so he’s out of contract next year – if QPR see potential in him, they might fancy extending his stay again, especially after reports linked him with a Premier League move last year.

Luke Amos

The former Spurs man became an important player for the club during the second half of last season.

Returning to the side shortly before the New Year, Amos went on to feature 29 times in the league, scoring six goals from midfield.

His knack for goals was a huge help for Mark Warburton towards the end of the season and with just a year left on his stay, QPR could do worse than look to extend his deal.

If he impresses next season then QPR could find themselves in a difficult position regarding his contract.
