Watford set to land cash boost as 2017 signing nears permanent exit

Watford forward Cucho Hernandez is set to leave the club after MLS side Columbus Crew agreed a deal to take the Columbian to the States.

Watford’s relegation to the Championship and the appointment of Rob Edwards look set to bring around a summer of change.

While the new boss will be looking to make some fresh additions he will be all too aware that some key assets could head out, and one who looks to be heading for the exit door is forward Hernandez.

It has been widely reported in recent days that the Columbian is closing in on a move to MLS outfit Columbus Crew and now, ESPN has said that the deal is agreed and Cucho will be making the move.

Columbus Crew will be breaking their transfer record with the $10m (around £8.1m) swoop, landing Watford a decent cash influx.

Fondly remembered

Despite signing in January 2017, the 2021/22 campaign was the only season that Watford fans actually got to see Hernandez in action.

He spent time out on loan with CD America, SD Huesca, RCD Mallorca and Getafe CF before getting the chance to play at Vicarage Road. Last season, the forward managed five goals and three assists in 28 outings, with his hard-working displays and trickery making him an exciting player.

Ultimately though, the move sees the Hornets land a welcome fee for the 23-year-old, giving Edwards the funds to make a mark on his squad in areas he believes require improvement.

Cucho will move on with the well-wishes of Watford fans, and the sum of around £8m will hopefully be used well.
