Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence remains on the cusp on joining Tottenham Hotspur, but the youngster’s move seems to be stalling slightly.
Spence remains a prime target of Antonio Conte’s this summer.
The 21-year-old shone on loan at Nottingham Forest last time round and made himself one of the most in-demand right wing-backs in the world.
But it’s Spurs who seem most keen and it’s they who have been most closely linked with a move for Spence this summer.
The latest on Spence to Spurs…
Last week, The Athletic revealed that Spence preferred a move to Spurs this summer. That all but confirmed that Spence as heading to the north London club this summer, and so it quickly became a question of when.
And the day after that report surfaced, Football Insider claimed that Spurs could close a deal for Spence in the ‘coming days’, having held further talks with Spence’s representatives on Tuesday last week.
But nothing came to fruition last week.
Tweeting on Saturday however, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Tottenham are yet to make a official bid for Spence but that they are expected to make ‘direct contacts’ this week.
Romano tweeted:
Djed Spence deal. No negotiations this weekend, Tottenham are really interested since March but still no official bid, new direct contacts expected next week. 🏴 #THFC

For the time being then, Spence remains a Middlesbrough player. They’ll surely be eager to offload him while his stock is high, but they’ll also want to get their money’s worth.
Boro’s sale of Spence could determine how much spending money they have in this summer’s transfer window but with the 2022/23 season quickly dawning upon us, Middlesbrough and Spurs may need to get a move on and thrash this deal out.
