Middlesbrough duo’s contract end dates confirmed after conflicting reports

Middlesbrough duo Marcus Tavernier and Dael Fry’s contracts will come to an end in June 2024, Teesside Live have confirmed.

Middlesbrough are expected to have a busy transfer window this summer, with both plenty of incomings and outgoings.

Two players who have been linked with moves away are Marcus Tavernier and Dael Fry, yet Boro aren’t under pressure to sell.

Several reports had stated that both players were coming into the final year of their contracts, yet Teesside Live have had it confirmed by the club that this is not the case.

The duo’s current deals end in June 2024, as opposed to the same month in 2023.

Bournemouth’s pursuit of Tavernier for a £10 million fee was based on the midfielder nearing the end of his contract, and so any bids would need to be at a higher rate if Boro are to part company with one of their star players.

The report goes on to say that both Tavernier and Fry feature heavily in manager Chris Wilder’s plans for the upcoming campaign. They are not needing to sell to raise funds, or to cash in to avoid losing the pair for free next summer.

However, Teesside Live do go on to say that every club has their price for their prized assets, and Tavernier and Fry have made their intentions and ambitions clear, in that they wish to play in the Premier League.

They weren’t part of the Middlesbrough squad last time the club played in the top flight. Tavernier was still in the academy system, whilst Fry was sent out on loan to lower league Rotherham United.

Ideally they will want to get their current side to the Premier League, but a bid from a club in the division above could change that.
