Gary Rowett makes exciting Millwall transfer revelation as club lodges record bids

Millwall boss Gary Rowett has revealed the club have already made two bids that would break their transfer record this summer.

It looks set to be an exciting summer at The Den with the club’s summer recruitment drive underway ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Rowett guided Millwall to a 9th-place finish last time out and they ended the campaign sitting six points outside of the top six. The Lions were still in with a shot of the play-offs going into the final day and their promising campaign has fans excited for the new season.

Although it wasn’t to be last time around, Millwall are showing a real intent to make a statement in the upcoming season.

Rowett has issued an update on the current state of play regarding transfers, stating two bids that would break the club’s transfer record have been made. While speaking with the South London Press, here’s what he had to say:

“There are a lot of good players that we’ve been in discussion with.

“What I would say is the club are prepared to put some good offers out – we’ve put two bids at the moment that would probably be bigger than our record signing. It shows where we are. What we don’t want to do is not use that money wisely because it is a lot of money.

“It’s also important that the right players want to come to us. If the players are committed then they are the ones we want to try and get over the line.”

No time to waste

The Millwall squad begin their proper pre-season next week and Rowett is hoping the wheels are well in motion to make some new additions by then.

Their current record transfer fee is £1.5million which they spent on Ryan Leonard in 2018.

The London-based club are also reportedly interested in AFC Wimbledon’s Jack Rudoni, who has already had bids rejected from fellow Championship suitors, Sunderland and Huddersfield Town.

Rudoni spent last season in League One and contributed 16 goals over the course of his campaign.

The 21-year-old was named his club’s Player of the Year last season and would be an exciting addition at The Den this summer.

Whilst no reports of a Lions bid for Rudoni have emerged yet, it seems Millwall are certainly ready to splash the cash where necessary.
