Rotherham United keeping tabs on Leicester City forward’s situation

Rotherham United are said to be among the sides keeping a keen eye on George Hirst’s situation at Premier League club Leicester City.

Rotherham United boss Paul Warne will be determined to add some fresh faces to his ranks this summer as the Millers prepare for life back in the Championship.

Now, Darren Witcoop has claimed that one player the club have on their radar is former loan man Hirst.

He states that Rotherham United are ‘watching developments’ while a number of League One clubs have identified him as a potential target, with Leicester City ready to give him the green light to move on this summer.

What about Portsmouth?

The interest in Hirst comes after he starred on loan with Portsmouth last season.

After a difficult first half of the campaign, the former Sheffield Wednesday youngster hit the form of his life in 2022. Overall, he managed 15 goals and three assists in 46 outings for Pompey, prompting Danny Cowley to state his desire to reunite with Hirst this summer.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers said last month that Hirst would be getting a chance to impress in pre-season. The striker said himself he will be waiting to see how his situation pans out this summer.

It seems he has plenty of suitors ahead of the new season but it awaits to be seen exactly how his Leicester City situation pans out.

Rotherham United fans won’t have the best memories of Hirst given that he played 32 times without scoring during a loan spell with the club back in 2020/21, but his form with Portsmouth has shown he seems to be on the right path in his bid to forge a successful career in the game.
