Preston North End drop interest in Spanish ace, report reveals

Preston North End have ended their chase to sign Villareal left-back Xavi Quintilla after it emerged he would not have been able to land a work permit.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe will be hoping to revamp his squad this summer as he embarks on his first summer window in charge at Deepdale.

A breakthrough hasn’t been made on the transfer front just yet but the hard work is ongoing, with targets identified.

One man who emerged on the Lilywhites’ transfer radar is former Norwich City loan man Quintilla. The Spaniard, currently on the books with Villareal, had been lined up as an option on the left-hand side of defence, but now, Lancs Live has said Preston have now called off their pursuit.

New laws mean that players from overseas are now granted work permits on a points-based system. As the situation developed, it became clear that Quintilla would not be granted a work permit as he fell short of the 15 points required to land a permit, leading to PNE ending their interest.

Time to look elsewhere…

With Quintilla not heading to Deepdale any time soon, Lowe and co will now have to turn their attentions elsewhere for new options.

Nobody was able to nail down a starting spot as Lowe’s go-to left wing-back last season. Bringing in a new face to fill that vacant spot this summer looks to be an important task, and it will be hoped ground can be made up on their search soon after the Quintilla developments.

No new faces have arrived at Deepdale yet, so fans will be eagerly awaiting their first addition of the summer.
