Peterborough United confirm departure of 2019 signing

Peterborough United have announced the departure of defender Mark Beevers, who leaves upon the mutual cancellation of his contract with the club.

Peterborough United recruited Beevers in the summer of 2019, snapping him up from a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers.

He arrived with plenty of Football League pedigree under his belt having spent previous spells with Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and the aforementioned Trotters. But now, it has been confirmed he will be heading for pastures new.

As confirmed on the club’s official website, Beevers and Peterborough United have come to a mutual agreement to terminate his contract at London Road.

The decision comes despite the fact he still has two years left on his deal, with chairman Darragh MacAnthony commending the towering centre-back for even entertaining talks to end his time at the club amid the time left on his contract.

Beevers departs having fallen down the pecking order over the 2021/22 campaign. However, he will be fondly remembered for captaining Posh to automatic promotion in the 2020/21 season, notching up 101 appearances in the process.

A fresh start…

Beevers is now freed to talk with other clubs as a free agent, and you’d think that he won’t be short of options given his previous performances in League One, experience and leadership abilities.

As for Posh, it frees up a spot in the squad and some space on the wage bill to make some new additions of their own.

Two new faces have already come through the doors at London Road, with goalkeepers Harvey Cartwright and Lucas Bergstrom signing on loan.
