Latest Middlesbrough news: Boro keen on Crystal Palace man, ex-England international eyed + more

Middlesbrough’s summer transfer plans look to be getting well underway now, with Chris Wilder looking as though he’s about to sign a goalkeeper or two.

This month has seen Joe Lumley seal a loan move to Reading. The former QPR man struggled in goal last season and will spend the next season with Reading, whilst another Boro shot-stopper Sol Brynn is reportedly close to signing for Swindon Town.

A new no.1 then is paramount for Middlesbrough this summer, and one who was linked over the weekend was Crystal Palace’s Jack Butland.

The former England goalkeeper has fallen out of favour at Selhurst Park and The Sun say that Boro could bring him to the Riverside this summer.

Meanwhile, Boro are said to be in talks with another former England goalkeeper in Ben Foster, who is set to become a free agent at the end of this month when his Watford contract expires.

Further up the pitch, Middlesbrough are reportedly keen on Wolves’ Ryan Giles.

The winger spent time on loan with both Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers last season, racking up 10 assists across the season in total – Boro are said to want a loan deal for the 22-year-old.

This summer looks as though it could be a positive one for Boro.

Fans are hopeful that Wilder can bolster his side where necessary so that they can improve on last season’s 7th place finish, and the inconsistencies that threw them out of top-six contention towards the end of the last campaign as well.
