Burnley set to rival West Brom in pursuit of soon-to-be free agent midfielder

According to Alan Nixon, Burnley are set to make a last-ditch move for soon-to-be free-agent Jed Wallace.

Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League brings about the necessity of a remodelling. This comes as the Clarets look to adjust to Championship football.

Wallace is coming towards the end of his current deal at Millwall and Burnley’s new boss Vincent Kompany wants the 28-year-old for his Turf Moor rebuild.

Wallace’s London stay coming to an end?

Wallace’s five-year stay at Millwall is set to end at the end of this month.

Wallace will then become a free agent. He is seen as one of the best Championship free agents available this summer.

Last season, the former Wolves man featured in 37 Championship games for Millwall.

His contribution across those games stood out, Wallace scoring six goals and adding 11 assists.

Those numbers are a small part of a larger mosaic at Millwall where he has made 259 appearances, scoring 42 goals and providing 48 assists.

Now The Sun’s Nixon says that Burnley are looking at a move for him, but there is also interest from fellow Championship side West Brom.

Thoughts?

Wallace is going to be snapped up quickly. There is little doubt about that – someone in the Championship will have him wearing a shirt.

The numbers across his time in football – 74 goals and 68 assists in 407 games – stand testament to that, and 228 of those games have come in the Championship showing a wealth of experience at this level.

He has also bloomed strongly during his five-year stay at Millwall. This means that a successful party would be getting a player on a hot streak.

It’s less of a question of ‘would he fit the bill at Burnley’, and rather it should be a case of Burnley making quick move to ensure that he does.
