Blackburn Rovers, Blackburn Rovers looking at Norwich City man

Blackburn Rovers looking at Norwich City man

According to Alan Nixon, new Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson is eyeing up a move for Norwich City’s Todd Cantwell.

Blackburn Rovers struggled for consistency last season, ending the season in a respectable 8th place in the Championship table.

That finish left them two places and six points shy of the play-offs. It was also a finish which saw them part ways with long-term boss Tony Mowbray.

Looking at a summer restructure under new boss Tomasson, Nixon says that to swoop for Norwich City midfielder Cantwell.

Blackburn move for Cantwell…

Nixon writes that Canaries star Cantwell “is a shock first target” for Tomasson as he looks to share Blackburn in his own image.

Nixon adds that Tomasson’s Rovers side are “looking into a loan agreement.” He further adds that it might be a difficult deal to get done.

The difficulty, he says, comes due to Cantwell entering the final year of his current deal at Carrow Road.

Cantwell made eight appearances for Norwich City in last season’s doomed Premier League campaign. After that, he was loaned out to Bournemouth.

He made 11 appearances for the Cherries in the Championship but failed to really spark. Bournemouth chose not to take up a purchase option for him.

Thoughts?

If this is a move that could be made, then Blackburn Rovers should go full steam ahead to make it happen.

Despite not sparking at Bournemouth last season, Cantwell has shown that he’s more than good enough at Championship level.

He has appeared in 68 Championship games across his career, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists.

He has ability on the ball and likes to get forward. This would be a mouth-watering prospect when you throw Ben Brereton-Diaz into the equation.

Cantwell feeding a striker of his threat would make Blackburn Rovers a more than dangerous side.

Of course, there’s the obstacle of whether Norwich City would sanction Cantwell leaving to a fellow Championship side and potential rival.
