Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth set sights on 27-year-old striker

Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth are all keen on Barnsley’s 27-year-old striker Cauley Woodrow, it has been reported.

Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth will all be aiming for promotion next season.

However, before the new season commences, all three will be hoping they can enjoy a successful summer of recruitment to prepare for the gruelling League One campaign.

Now, as per Darren Witcoop, all three have identified Barnsley star Woodrow as a potential target.

The 27-year-old is said to have attracted interest from Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and Portsmouth as they all look to bolster their attacking ranks before embarking on the 2022/23 season.

Interest in Woodrow comes as the forward enters the final 12 months of his deal at Oakwell. He has been with the Tykes since the summer of 2018, initially joining on loan from Fulham before making the switch permanent in January.

Since then, he has gone on to score 53 times in 157 outings, also laying on 10 assists and becoming club captain.

Could a deal be done?

Of course, the move will be heavily dependent on whether or not Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town or Portsmouth can conjure up enough money to tempt the Tykes into green-lighting a departure.

Barnsley’s position on player sales could give the trio some encouragement. Chairman Neerav Parekh has said that players will have to be sold to raise funds for further additions, so it remains to be seen just who heads for the exit door this summer.

Despite their dismal 2021/22 season, Barnsley still have some assets that could go for decent fees this summer.

Woodrow has previously impressed in the Championship and has already proven his ability in League One, so interest in his services won’t come as much of a surprise, but it awaits to be seen if the rumour develops into anything serious over the coming weeks and months.
