Leeds United transfer rumours, Leeds United eyeing up Sheffield United ace

Leeds United eyeing up Sheffield United ace

Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge is on Leeds United’s transfer radar, says journalist Dean Jones.

Berge, 24, is once again attracting Premier League interest. Last summer, the Norwegian international had suitors in the top flight but remained with Sheffield United, going on to feature 33 times in the league in the 2021/22 campaign.

The midfielder scored six and assisted four, and became increasingly impressive throughout the season having scored five in his last 14 outings for the Blades.

Earlier this month, it was reported that an unnamed Premier League side had expressed an interest in signing Berge this summer, and now, Jones says that Berge is a target of Leeds United’s.

Jones says that Berge is valued at £25million by Sheffield United and that ‘no other club has made contact over a potential deal’, suggesting that the previously unnamed club who expressed an interest in signing Berge may well be Leeds United.

Should United cash in this summer?

Sheffield United’s transfer business was slow last summer. This summer, they look to have made an equally slow start to the pre-season but there’s still plenty of time for Paul Heckingbottom to bring in some new recruits.

And he certainly needs them with Sheffield United letting go a number of players at the end of this month, with an already small squad and a number of injuries carrying on into this summer.

The Blades may well need to sell in order to buy new players this summer and Berge, if they can cash in at £25million, may be a sensible sale.

He’s certainly a key player but his injury record over the past few seasons has been a cause for concern, and so too is his lack of consistency at times.

If Sheffield United can sell Berge at the right price this summer and do so soon enough so that they can then reinvest the money in the squad, then it might be a smart call.
