Departing QPR man enters discussions with A-League club

QPR’s departing striker Charlie Austin has held talks over a move to join A-League side Brisbane Roar, it has been claimed by Sky Sports.

QPR confirmed back in May that experienced striker Austin would be among the out of players to depart the club this summer.

The decision comes a year after his permanent return to Loftus Road, signing on a free transfer from West Brom following a successful loan spell in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.

Last season saw the former Burnley and Southampton man bag seven times in 38 outings across all competitions, taking his total for the R’s to 61 goals in 148 appearances, also chipping in with 13 assists along the way.

Now, with free agency beckoning, Sky Sports (Transfer Centre Live, 16.06.22, 16:40) has claimed that Austin has held talks over a potential eye-catching move to Australia’s A-League with Brisbane Roar.

It is said that positive talks have taken place with Roar boss Warren Moon and the striker would be ‘interested’ in heading to the country.

A new challenge?

Having spent his entire career playing in England, a move to Australia could be an exciting new challenge for the vastly experienced striker.

Austin has already proven himself in the Championship and Premier League and as an increasingly competitive division, a switch to the A-League could be an exciting prospect for the departing QPR striker.

Plenty of players tend to try their luck abroad in the latter stages of their careers, so it will be interesting to see if Austin is tempted by the prospect of dipping his toes into new waters this summer as he heads for the Loftus Road exit door.
