Sources: Carlisle United, Walsall, Scunthorpe, Rochdale all looking at Halifax Town’s Niall Maher

Carlisle United, Walsall, Scunthorpe United and Rochdale are all looking at Halifax Town skipper Niall Maher, a source has exclusively revealed to The72.

Maher, 26, is attracting interest from a host of English Football League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

The midfielder, who is formerly of Bolton Wanderers, is wanted by all of Carlisle United, Walsall, Scunthorpe United and Rochdale ahead of next month’s transfer window, a source has exclusively told The72.

Halifax Town play in the National League. They currently sit in 2nd-place of the table and look good to challenge for promotion into the Football League, with Maher scoring once in 19 league outings this season.

All four linked clubs sit in the bottom half of the League Two table – Walsall in 12th, Rochdale in 14th, Carlisle in 21st and Scunthorpe at the bottom of the pile.

All could do with some January reinforcements to ensure they have a more comfortable second half of the seaosn, and Maher could be a real fine addition to any of the four linked clubs.

He’s a real all-round midfielder who likes to keep play ticking over and during his time as Halifax captain he’s developed a clear leadership side to his game.

Should he not seal a January transfer up into the Football League then he could yet make the step up with Halifax next season.
