Luton Town youngster Matt Moloney seals non-league loan switch

Luton Town have confirmed the departure of another young talent, with Matt Moloney joining Hitchin Town.

Despite the fact the transfer window is currently closed, EFL clubs are still allowed to do business with non-league clubs.

It allows teams to send young talents out on loan outside of the window, giving academy players the chance to pick up senior experience away with other clubs.

That is exactly what Luton Town have moved to do, with young defender Matt Moloney now linking up with Hitchin Town on a temporary basis.

Moloney isn’t the first academy talent to leave on loan outside of the window.

Ben Stevens is also on loan in the Southern League Premier Central Division, linking up with Biggleswade Town.

Moloney will be looking to impress as his Luton Town teammate has with Biggleswade. Stevens has managed two goals in his first two matches with the Southern League Premier Central Division side, so Moloney will catch the eye if he can emulate his teammate’s form.

The situation at Hitchin Town

As it stands, Hitchin Town sit in 19th place in the Southern League Premier Central Division, so Moloney will be hoping to help them rise from the lower echelons of the division and up the table.

Up next for the club is Needham Market, so it will be interesting to see if Moloney comes straight into the side and, if he does, if he is able to make an instant impact with his loan club.

He will be remaining with the team until January.
