Chelsea youngster set for Blackpool move – report says a deal’s been agreed

Blackpool were worthy winners of promotion from League One last season. They deserve their shot at the Championship this time around.

Blackpool’s Championship campaign hasn’t got off to the best of starts and the Tangerines sit in the drop zone after their opening five games.

Neil Critchley has brought the likes of Josh Bowler (Everton Under-23s), Richard Keogh (Huddersfield) and Tyreece John-Jules (Arsenal Under-23s) to Bloomfield Road.

However, Football London say that the Seasiders are not going to stop there and have agreed on a deal with Chelsea for Dujon Sterling.

Dujon Sterling – heading to Blackpool

21-year-old Sterling has been at Stamford Bridge since signing on with the Blues as a 7-year-old schoolboy.

This will not be his first temporary move away from the Londoners. Prior to this move, Sterling has enjoyed loans at Coventry City (July 2018-May 2019) and at Wigan Atheltic (August 2019-May 2020).

These moves have seen the England youth international rack up eight games of Championship experience and 38 games of experience in League One.

Now Football London’s Adam Newson reports that Sterling will head north to Blackpool after signing a new two-year deal with the Blues.

Thoughts?

A move to Blackpool will test Sterling’s mettle in a very competitive Sky Bet Championship competition.

It will also allow him to regain match fitness after illness and injury wrecked his 2020 with the Covid pandemic at its peak.

Football London report that Sterling has been training with the first-team squad at Chelsea this pre-season and that he’s impressed boss Thomas Tuchel.

In short, this is a fantastic move for Blackpool and one that will add the necessary level of talent to help drag them away from the foot of the table.
