Charlton Athletic boss rules out free agent signings for now

There has been ‘talk’ of Charlton Athletic exploring options in the free agent market.

However, Lee Bowyer has said that there is nobody out there who would improve their squad at this moment in time, as per a report by London News Online.

The Addicks have slipped out of the top six in League One and were open to seeing if there was anybody available to sign on a free.

They are hopeful of turning one of their loan players into a permanent signing before their clash against Fleetwood Town. They currently have the likes of Andrew Shinnie, Jayden Stockley, Akin Famewo and Ian Maatsen on loan.

Bowyer has delivered this update on their chances of getting any free agents in before the end of the season: “Steve Gallen has obviously gone through the list of who is out there – but there is no-one out there who is going to improve us anywhere.

“That one looks a bit of a dead end. If there was maybe we could’ve done something – but there simply is not. So that’s done now.”

Charlton had a busy January transfer window but are obviously not 100% satisfied with what they have at the moment. Nevertheless, they still have a good opportunity of getting into the Play-Offs this term.

The withdrawal of the salary cap in League One will give the London club more freedom with their transfer dealings in the future.
