As quoted by Wales Online, Cardiff City boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed January signing Jonny Williams is fit to feature against Preston North End.
Williams is yet to make his debut since joining Cardiff City on deadline day.
The Welshman linked up with Mick McCarthy’s side from Charlton Athletic but suffered a training injury shortly after his move. Now, with Preston North End around the corner, an update on his fitness has emerged.
Bluebirds boss McCarthy has confirmed the 27-year-old has returned to training ahead of this weekend’s game.
The Cardiff City boss added he hopes Williams can stay fit for the rest of the campaign as they chase a spot in the Championship play-odds. Speaking to Wales Online, he said:
“Jonny Williams trained, Sheyi Ojo trained, so we’ve got those guys out again. They trained fully today, they’ll be OK [for Saturday].
“He was really looking forward himself to getting a Cardiff City shirt on. It’s just one of those things. He took a bang, nothing he can do about it. But he’s fine now, let’s hope he remains fit now for the rest of the season.”
A win against Preston could put Cardiff within three points of the play-off spots. McCarthy’s side are in a strong run of form having won their last four league games in a row.
As for Preston, Alex Neil’s side have won once in their last five, with their only three points coming against rivals Blackburn Rovers.
