Former Portsmouth and Mansfield Town man completes Swindon Town return

Swindon Town have confirmed the return of former Portsmouth and Mansfield Town man Dion Donohue on their official club website.

After his deal with Swindon Town came to an end earlier this year, former Portsmouth and Mansfield Town man Dion Donohue has completed a return to the League One club.

Swindon confirmed the deal on Friday evening, announcing that Donohue has returned to the club. The 27-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Robins, keeping him at the County Ground until the end of the season.

Donohue spoke to the club’s official website about his reunion with Richie Wellens, revealing the role the Swindon Town boss had in his return. Speaking upon the announcement of the deal, he said:

“I’m obviously glad to get it over the line. I’m happy now I can fully concentrate on playing football and with the team we’ve got here, I think we’ve got a good chance of doing something this year.

“When I originally came here, I enjoyed it more than any football for the previous two, three years, so I never ever thought about going anywhere else but here.

“I think it’s very important that you get on with the manager. On a personal level, if a manager is going to help you in all aspects of life, they’re going to get the best out of you on the pitch as well.”

Donohue, 26, can play at either left midfield or as a left-back. He made his breakthrough with Chesterfield, where he played in 65 games before making a move to Portsmouth in 2017.

Donohue went on to join Mansfield Town two years later but his spell was cut short after a matter of months and he signed for Swindon Town.
