Birmingham City deal for loan star ‘wouldn’t be cheap’ says journalist

Speaking on Twitter, The Sun journalist Alan Nixon has said that it won’t be cheap for Birmingham City if they want to sign loan star Scott Hogan from Aston Villa this summer.

Birmingham City brought Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan in on loan in the January transfer window and since he made the move, Hogan has not looked back since. Hogan has been back to his dangerous best at St Andrew’s, scoring seven goals and laying on one assist in nine appearances, striking up a strong partnership with Birmingham favourite Lukas Jutkiewicz in the process.

With the summer transfer window fast approaching, speculation has grown regarding Hogan’s future. The player has previously said that he would be happy to make a permanent move to St Andrew’s but Aston Villa’s stance remains unknown.

Now, journalist Alan Nixon has weighed in on Hogan’s transfer situation. Nixon said on Twitter (see tweet below) that there is “definite interest” in a permanent deal but added that it would not be on the cheap.

Hogan’s time with Aston Villa has not gone as either the club or player would have hoped. The striker has struggled with injury and form problems, scoring 10 goals in 61 appearances for the Villa Park side.

The striker’s impressive form for Birmingham City shows that a permanent transfer could be good for all parties. Hogan certainly seems to be enjoying his football again and both Birmingham City and the club’s supporters will have no objections to a long-term deal if he keeps up his impressive form.

As for Aston Villa, the summer transfer window is expected to see costs cut across the board, so a sale could help them free up some funds. But, if they are relegated from the Premier League, could they look to keep Hogan on board given his experience of the division.

It will be interesting to see how Hogan’s situation pans out this summer. Where do you think he should go this summer?
