West Brom boss set to make Vedat Muriqi his ‘main transfer target’

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic is set to make Fenerbahce striker Vedat Muriqi his ‘main transfer target’ this summer as reported by Turkish newspaper Aksam.

Bilic understands that Albion will need to win promotion to the Premier League to stand any chance of landing the striker but is willing to offload players in order to fund the move.

The Baggies have been linked with Muriqi for some time and it now appears that Bilic will swoop for the Kosovan international but he will face stern competition from top-flight sides.

Fenerbahce are reportedly looking for at least €20million for the striker who has been a prolific presence for them so far this season.

French Ligue 1 side Rennes are believed to have entered the race for the Kosovan as well as Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur who are thought to be keen.

The 26-year-old has been in great goalscoring form having scored 15 goals already this campaign before the suspension of the football season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

His contract with the Turkish club expires in the summer of 2023 meaning they are in no hurry to sell one of their prized assets for less than his valuation.

West Brom will undoubtedly be eager to reinforce their striking options, particularly if they are a Premier League side next season.

Hal Robson-Kanu is currently their top scorer with ten goals, Charlie Austin has nine and fellow striker Kenneth Zohore has five to his name.

Goals for the Baggies tend to have been shared throughout the team but Bilic will be well aware that he will require a clinical finisher if they are a top-flight team next season.
