Championship transfer, Leeds United, West Brom and Fulham show interest in Rangers defender

Leeds United, West Brom and Fulham show interest in Rangers defender

According to Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey, such is the interest in 27-year-old centre-back Connor Goldson that the Gers might have to offer him a new deal. Whilst Premier League side West Ham United are interested, so are the top three Championship sides.

Veysey writes that the Glasgow giants may have to steam on ahead of the gathering pack and tie the former Brighton and Hove Albion man down to a more lucrative deal. The reason for that, he says, is that Goldson has “been on the radar” of Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion and Fulham since January and the Gers fear a plot to swoop for the rangy defender who is said valued around the £6million mark.

Goldson signed on at Rangers in 2018 for a fee of around £3 million from Brighton. Since heading north of the border, he has gone on to make 105 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.

This season he has featured in 51 games for the Scottish side, 29 of these (three goals/one assist) being in the SPL. He has also featured heavily in Rangers’ Europa League campaign, making 17 appearances across qualifying and group stages.

Referring to an ‘Ibrox source’, Veysey writes that Rangers believe that they can hold off any interest with their £6million valuation of him. However, as a precautionary measure, Veysey writes that the Gers “may need to initiate new contract talks” just to make doubly sure.

For their £3million outlay to bring him in, Goldson has proven to be excellent value for Rangers and is seen as the leader of their defence.
