“We’re just planning ahead”- Portsmouth plotting summer transfer activity

Portsmouth are using the break from football to identify potential transfer targets for the summer, as per a report by The News.

Pompey’s plans for the coming months are well underway as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

The League One side currently sit 4th in the table, two points off the automatic promotion places and a single point inside the Play-Offs. They have a real chance of promotion to the Championship if the season returned, though no one knows exactly what will happen during these unprecedented times.

Portsmouth have been shrewd in their transfer dealings over recent campaigns and are expecting this summer to be no different.

Their assistant manager Joe Gallen has been speaking about summer transfers, as per The News: “Where we start is that we have areas of the team that we’d like to improve and areas where there are players out of contract, as well.”

“We’re just planning ahead then. We have some realistic options that are ready to come in and enhance our team and in the positions we are looking for. We are looking to pick up players of that calibre, which you can do but you have really got to scroll through it and know your stuff to pick up the right ones”

He added: “For us, we always have a meeting during the week about the previous game. We talk about the other team a bit and discuss the players that we think would improve our team. Mentally, I’ve always got some names of players in my head that I think “he’s played well against us and keeps playing well against us”.

Gallen has worked with Pompey boss Kenny Jackett at Millwall, Wolves and Rotherham United in the past.
