Besiktas interested in move for Luton Town goalkeeper Simon Sluga

Besiktas are interested in Luton Town goalkeeper Simon Sluga, as per a report by Sport Witness.

The Turkish Super Lig side have identified the Hatters’ stopper as a potential replacement for Loris Karius, who is set to return to parent club Liverpool this summer.

Sluga, who is 27 years old, only joined Luton last summer from Rijeka and has played 25 games in all competitions for Graeme Jones’ side in his first season in England. The Championship side paid a club-record fee of €1.5 million to lure him to Kenilworth Road and he penned a three-year deal.

Besiktas could now try and tempt him away from Luton over the coming months. They were 5th in the league before the season was brought to a halt and were five points off the European places.

Sluga represented Croatia at all youth levels in the past before he was handed his first and only senior cap to date in June last year in a freindly against Tunisia.

The ‘keeper started his career at local side Jadran Porec before switching to Rijeka as a youngster in 2008. He had loan spells away at Juventus Primavera, Verona Primavera, Pomorac, Lokomotiva and Spezia during his time at the Stadion Rujevica.

Sluga initially struggled to hit form at Luton but had started to impress before the campaign stopped. His future at the club could depend on what league they are in next term. If they are relegated to League One, Besiktas have more of a chance of swooping in and signing him.
