Norwich City targeting move for ex-Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri

Norwich City want to sign former Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri from Hellas Verona, as per a report by Italian news outlet Tuttomercato.

The Italian stopper could be set for a move back to England this summer with Southampton and Everton also being credited with an interest.

Silvestri, who is 29 years old, spent three years at Leeds from 2014 to 2017 before moving back to his native country when Hellas Verona came calling.

He joined the Whites for a fee of €1 million from Chievo and penned a four-year deal at Elland Road and made his debut for the Yorkshire side in a Championship fixture against Millwall. He also played for the likes of Modena, Padova and Cagliari in his early career.

Silvestri was Leeds’ first choice ‘keeper in his first two campaigns at the club but lost his place between the sticks to Rob Green in his final season under Garry Monk. He made just six appearances in the 2016/17 season, all of which came in cup competitions.

The ex-Italy Under-21 international has now established himself at Verona’s number one and played a key part in their promotion to Serie A last year. He has since impressed back in the top flight and could be rewarded with a big move over the coming months.

Norwich look set for a return to the Championship this season if/when football is back. They are expected to be in the hunt for another goalkeeper this summer regardless and could bring a familiar face to Leeds fans to Carrow Road.
