Former England international Darren Bent has revealed that he thinks Patrick Bamford will start as the number one choice striker for the rest of the season ahead of Tyler Roberts in an interview with Football Insider.
Bamford has only scored two goals so far this calendar year which came in the same game but Bent is a fan of the striker despite some of the criticism he has received from some supporters.
“Listen, it was two good goals he scored, two good goals, but for whatever reason Bamford is Bielsa’s guy,” Bent said.
“However you want to look at it, Bielsa loves him. Now I don’t mind Bamford, I know a lot of people give him a lot of criticism because he doesn’t score enough goals or that he misses a lot of chances but he works so hard for that team.”
“He’s one of those players that if you ask his teammates, they’d say they’d miss him because he works hard, puts a shift in, does a lot of running, shuts people down and he does chip in with the odd goal.”
“For me, Bamford from now until the end of the season is going to start but Tyler Roberts is pushing him.”
Bamford has gone seven games without a goal and Roberts came on against Hull City and scored two goals as they hammered the Tigers 4-0 at the KCOM Stadium.
Welsh international Roberts has struggled with injuries in recent months but represents a good option for Bielsa should Bamford’s woeful run in front of goal continue.
