Grant McCann reflects on Hull City’s January transfer window

Losing your two best players on the final day of the transfer window would be a disaster for any football club.

Hull City lost top scorer Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki to West Ham United and West Brom respectively and found themselves with a major void to fill.

The Tigers’ managed to bring in the likes of Herbie Kane, Martin Samuelsen, Mallik Wilks, Marcus Maddison and James Scott last month to form an almost new-look side.

Grant McCann’s side started life without Bowen and Grosicki with a disastrous 5-1 home defeat to Brentford last weekend and travel to the Madejski Stadium to face Reading tomorrow looking to halt their poor run of form.

When asked about his thoughts on Hull’s past transfer window, McCann said, as per their official club website: “I think we’ve recruited some really good players. We’ve brought in young, hungry players that want to prove a point and will help this football club in years to come. That can bring inconsistencies in performances and results, but I think it’s been good business for the football club.”

“I don’t think the club had any choice on the matter in terms of the ones going out. It’s done and dusted now and I’m pleased the window is closed. We can now settle, focus on the last 16 games of the season and give it a really good go to get where we want to be.”

Many Hull fans are wondering where the goals are going to come from now and with 16 games left of the season they may start looking down the table rather than up it. Can they give their fans something to cheer about against the Royals tomorrow?
