Blackpool poised to sign Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on permanent deal

Blackpool are set to sign goalkeeper Chris Maxwell from Preston North End on a permanent deal, according to a report by the Lancashire Post.

The Welsh stopper’s contract is set to be terminated at Preston by mutual consent to pave the way for his move to Bloomfield Road.

Blackpool have been keen on bringing in another goalkeeper in this transfer window and have found their man in Maxwell.

The experienced ‘keeper has spent the first half of this season on loan in the Scottish Premiership with Hibernian having fallen out of favour at Deepdale.

Maxwell, who is 29 years old, played under the Tangerines boss Simon Grayson at Preston and is expected to reunite with him now. He joined the Lilywhites in 2016 from Fleetwood Town and has since made 83 appearances for the Lancashire side.

The ex-Wales Under-21 international started his career at Wrexham and went on to play 85 times for the National League side before earning a move to the Football League with Fleetwood in 2012.

Maxwell initially struggled for the number one spot with the Cod Army and had loan spell at Chesterfield and Cambridge United before going on to play 123 games in all competitions for the Higbhbury side.

He is an established goalkeeper and would be a shrewd signing by Blackpool if they can get the deal over the line. The Tangerines have been busy in this transfer window and are not expected to stop any time soon.
