Barnsley make approach for 20-year-old National League defender Ben Goodliffe

According to a report from Football Insider, Barnsley have made an approach to try and sign former Wolves centre-back Ben Goodliffe from National League outfit Sutton United.

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber is keen to make his mark on his squad in his first transfer window as Tykes boss. So far this month, Barnsley have signed Austrian midfielder Marcel Ritzmaier and German right-back Killian Ludewig, with the latter joining on a temporary basis. And now, it has been reported that the Championship side have made a move to try and bring in another new face.

20-year-old centre-back Ben Goodliffe, currently playing in the National League for Sutton United, is said to be wanted by the Tykes, who are reported to have made an approach to try and tempt him to Oakwell. Goodliffe has been a strong performer for Sutton since signing on a free transfer from Wolves in the summer transfer window.

So far this season, Goodliffe has played 28 times in all competitions, scoring two goals along the way.

A product of the Wolves academy, Goodliffe has previously spent time out on loan with the likes of Boreham Wood (four appearances) and Dagenham and Redbridge (33 appearances, one goal), while also playing for Wolves’ Under-23s side 12 times, scoring one goal in the process.

Barnsley are said to have approached Sutton over a possible move for Goodliffe and with his current contract running out at the end of the season, it will be interesting to see if the National League side opt to cash in this January.
