West Brom and Leeds United set to do battle for Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick

West Bromwich Albion and Leeds United are set to do battle for Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick this transfer window as reported by Football Insider.

Albion are hoping to win the race for the 32-year-old as both sides aim to improve their squads in January with a new striker top of both of their wish lists.

The Baggies are looking at offering an improved financial package to McGoldrick as they look to secure his services for the second half of the campaign.

Marcelo Bielsa and Slaven Bilic, who are the managers of the Championship’s top two placed clubs have reportedly been told that the Republic of Ireland international may be available this month.

McGoldrick has been a regular for Chris Wilder’s side this season but has yet to score in the Premier League and has only provided two assists so far.

The forward has 18-months left on his current deal and the Blades could look to cash in on him if they receive continued hope that there is serious interest in the striker.

The former Ipswich Town, Southampton and Nottingham Forest forward has an impressive Championship record, where in 318 appearances he has scored 75 goals and provided 30 assists.

Leeds have recently lost Eddie Nketiah who returned to parent club Arsenal and are now left with just Patrick Bamford as their main senior striker.

West Brom’s strikers Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Kenneth Zohore haven’t been particularly prolific so far this campaign and McGoldrick may well be the answer to their problems.
