Derby County keen on loan for Chelsea youngser Tariq Uwakwe

According to a report from The Sun, Derby County could look to sign Chelsea youngster Tariq Uwakwe on loan for the rest of the season.

Last season, Derby County were successful in bringing in young stars Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori in on loan from Chelsea, with the pair going on to star for the Rams as they almost won promotion to the Premier League. And now, it has been reported by The Sun that Derby could make a move for another Chelsea youngster this month.

Chelsea’s young midfielder Tariq Uwakwe is said to be on the radar of the Rams as manager Philip Cocu looks to bring in some new faces to bolster his squad for the rest of the season. Derby sit in 17th place in the Championship table but are hopeful that a strong second half of the season could propel them into the fight for a play-off spot.

Uwakwe, 20, is making his way through the youth academy and his impressive performances for Chelsea’s youth sides could see him make his break into senior football soon. The England youth international can play out on the left and right-wing as well as in his favoured role in the middle of the park.

Since graduating from the Under-18s side, Uwakwe has played 24 times for the club’s Under-23s side, scoring one goal and providing two assists in the process. He has also featured for England at three youth levels, playing for the Young Lions at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level.

With Derby County and Chelsea maintaining a strong relationship due to the success of Mount and Tomori’s loan spells at Pride Park and of course through Frank Lampard, it will be interesting to see if a move to the Rams materialises for Uwakwe.
