Leeds United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Liverpool starlet Curtis Jones with the news that Jurgen Klopp is now looking for him to remain at Anfield according to Football Insider.
Jones recently scored the winner in the Merseyside Derby and this has forced Klopp into a change of mind regarding the teenager who he was willing to allow to leave on loan.
Leeds were keen on the 18-year-old who hails from Liverpool and has enjoyed a number of impressive performances in their youth side, alerting clubs to his talent.
The Whites were hoping to acquire the teenager for the second half of the campaign but have reportedly now been told that this will not be happening.
Jones’ progress into the Liverpool first team in recent weeks has shut the door on any attempts to sign him by Marco Bielsa and Leeds will now need to look elsewhere if they wish to add further quality to their midfield options.
Liverpool fielded a host of youngsters against Everton in the Emirates FA Cup third-round tie and Jones was a real shining light in their team and Klopp now believes he could have a big part to play as he edges closer to their first team.
Leeds’ transfer dealing have so far not gone according to plan with them failing to land Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster as he opted for a move to Swansea.
Jack Clarke and Eddie Nketiah have also been recalled by their parent clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal respectively, leaving them with just Patrick Bamford as their senior striker.
