Sky Bet Championship side to profit as £50m Middle East talks are mooted

Take a look at the likes of Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain and it is clear as day to see the effects that Arab investment can have on a side. Since the money has come into those two outfits, it is safe to say that they have had their fortunes transformed.

Infrastructure becomes better, more robust and the deluge of money makes it easier to sign world-class players whose arrival changes the fortunes of the club. Success then breeds success which then has the money rolling in.

Fans of many clubs dream of such an influx of cash from rich Arab backers, dreaming of just what might become of their club once drenched in the lavish riches that Middle Eastern money provides. According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, one club that could be about to find this out for real is Swansea City.

Nixon says that Swansea “are a target for a Middle East consortium who are putting together a bid worth about £50million.” The Swans currently sit just outside the play-off picture in the Sky Bet Championship table. They are in 10th position in the table on 34 points, a points total that has them just a single point away from the last play-off side Fulham in 6th place.

Nixon adds that Swansea current owners value the South Wales side highly and, with an eye on the potential of promotion, know that the club’s value would increase any price they could demand from a potential suitor.

Yet, Nixon also adds a caveat that if the Swans progress is inconsistent as the season rolls on, “the talks may turn into a serious takeover attempt.”

Next up for Swansea is an away trip to Bedfordshire to face a struggling Luton Town side in a game that their fans will be hoping propels them up the table and closer, if not into, a play-off place.
