Blackburn Rovers targeting goalkeeper, left-back and centre-back this January

Blackburn Rovers are prioritising signing a goalkeeper, left-back and centre-back this January.

Tony Mowbray is eager to add more depth to his squad going into the second-half of the season, according to a report by the Lancashire Telegraph.

Rovers will continue their hunt for a long-term replacement for David Raya, who left for fellow Championship side Brentford over the summer. They currently have ‘keeper Christian Walton on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion but are looking to add some competition for him.

They have their sights set on a left-back with Cardiff City loanee Greg Cunningham out injured for the rest of the season. A central defender is also on their wish list.

Blackburn have been linked with Ross County striker Ross Stewart and Liverpool forward Rhian Brewster over the past week. However, Mowbray has said he isn’t looking at options up top just yet, as per the Lancashire Telegraph: “Do I think we can create competition in centre forward? I’m not sitting here thinking that’s a priority for us, no. I think we have other areas of the pitch that we need to prioritise.”

“I think we can strengthen in certain areas. When I say strengthen I mean create competition. Let’s wait and see.”

He added: “As I’ve always said, in transfer windows everything has to work, you have to find the players that will improve your group with the right mentality, right personality, that fit in to your budget. Sometimes there’s a lot of criteria that have to come together and it’s not always easy.”

“If the right players, at the right price, and the opportunity comes along then we will try and strengthen in January. If not, we’ll keep going with the group we’ve got.”
