Kilmarnock and Southend United plotting a move for highly-rated Walsall winger

Kilmarnock and Southend United are plotting a move for highly-rated Walsall winger Wes McDonald according to Football Insider.

The 22-year-old is currently on a short-term contract with the Midlands side in League Two however this expires at the end of the year and he is now subject of interest from other clubs.

The winger has been impressive for Walsall despite them languishing in 22nd place in League Two and Kilmarnock and Southend have bene keeping regular tabs on the pacy winger and are looking to sign him in January when he becomes a free agent.

Manager of the Scottish side, Angelo Alessio has been impressed by the versatile attacker this season and is now looking to offer him a pathway to the SPL as the side who are currently fifth in the Scottish Premiership look to push higher up the table.

Meanwhile, Southend boss Sol Campbell is seeking to add pace and width to his struggling League One side as they look to add reinforcements during the January transfer window.

McDonald who has also previously plied his trade with fellow Midlands side Birmingham City has netted one goal and provided one assist so far this season and has been one of the standout performers in the Walsall side.

He also played 12 times for Yeovil Town between August 2018 and January 2019 in another short term spell and he looks almost certainly set to move on from The Banks’ Stadium once his contract expires.
