Three new injury concerns for Middlesbrough ahead of Leeds United clash

Middlesbrough picked up their third win of the season on Wednesday night in their 1-0 victory over bottom of the table Barnsley.

Middlesbrough were in desperate need of three points after Luton’s win on Tuesday meant they dropped back into the relegation zone, but the win has now seen them escape the bottom three.

The focus will ultimately now turn to Saturday’s game against second-placed Leeds United, but Boro Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate won’t have a full squad to choose from, as has been the case for the majority of the campaign so far.

George Friend, Rudy Gestede, Marcus Browne and Ryan Shotton are already on the treatment table, and Marvin Johnson is suspended. But after the game, Woodgate revealed he has fresh injury concerns to contend with.

“[Anfernee Dijksteel] has got a slight knee problem” said Woodgate in an interview which appeared on The Hartlepool Mail.

“I’m not sure who is going to be fit (for the weekend) to be honest. We have a few niggles, the squad will be more depleted probably.

“We are down to the bare bones but it’s been like that all season.”

Another injury concern is Middlesbrough’s best player so far under Woodgate, Northern Irishman Paddy McNair.

“McNair has been carrying a glute injury, he’s had a few bangs to it and it’s been a sore area.

“He’s one of those players who is determined to play so lets see.”

Woodgate also stated that ‘keeper Darren Randolph is to be out for three weeks with a thigh injury, meaning Aynsley Pears will continue to deputise in goal.
