Aston Villa urged to sign top Championship striker by ex-player

Premier League side Aston Villa have been encouraged to make a move for Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic by ex-player Darren Bent.

In an interview with Football Insider, the retired England striker, who spent four years at Villa Park, said Mitrovic would be an “ideal fit” for the West Midlands outfit who are attempting to avoid an immediate return to the Sky Bet Championship.

Mitrovic has scored 35 times in 75 appearances for Fulham since his arrival at Craven Cottage and Bent believes he is “too good” to be playing in the Championship.

He said: I think he’s too good in the Championship and I think Villa need a centre-forward who can potentially score goals, obviously Wesley has done okay but he hasn’t really set the world alight as of yet.

“But we know what Mitrovic can do if you give him the service,  he can score goals so for me if I was Villa, I’d try and go out and get him as he’ll be the ideal fit.”

Serbian international Mitrovic came into English football after joining Newcastle United from Anderlecht in 2015.

He stayed at St James Park for three years scoring 14 goals in 65 appearances before moving south to join up with the Cottagers in London following a successful loan spell.

He recently signed a new deal to keep him in the capital for another five years until 2024.
