Championship keeper could go back out on loan to the MLS

Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone could return to the MLS with Minnesota United keen to resign him on loan.

The Italian shot stopper, who spent seven years at Arsenal before moving to Sunderland and later Reading in 2017, enjoyed a successful spell at the Western Conference MLS team last season but has since returned to the Madejski Stadium.

However, instead of fighting for the number one jersey at the Championship side, it has been reported by MLS Soccer that Mannone could go back to Minnesota United on loan for next season.

Mannone, who is 31, spent a long time in the shadows at Arsenal and only made 15 appearances for the first team in a seven-year spell between 2006 and 2013.

He then found first team opportunities available at Sunderland before departing to join the Royals.

Mannone joined Minnesota United on loan in February 2019 and was named last month as the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

The Italian shot stopper has never played for his country at senior level but he does have seven caps to his name at Under-21 level.
