Tony Pulis turned down Cardiff because he’s interested in two Premier League clubs

Tony Pulis was reportedly in the running to become the new Cardiff City boss after the departure of Neil Warnock, but instead the Bluebirds opted for former-Millwall Manager Neil Harris.

Tony Pulis, who’s previous manager role was at Middlesbrough, is now without a job after his sacking last summer. However, he is ready to get back into management but he is currently monitoring two Premier League clubs before making his move.

According to The Sun (via Teesside Live), Pulis is looking to secure a top flight position, and he is hoping to be considered for the West Ham United or Southampton job, if they are to part with Manuel Pellegrini and Ralph Hassenhutl respectively.

Southampton are languishing in 19th place, three points from safety, and Pulis has a good track record of keeping clubs in the division. They have attempted to appoint progressive, attack minded managers of late, but nothing has come to fruition. Pulis could be the right man to keep their Premier League hopes alive.

Elsewhere, West Ham are in 16th, five points above the relegation zone. Before the season, many believed West Ham could challenge for a place in the top six, but they could be sucked into a relegation battle if they aren’t too careful.

Cardiff face Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday at 12:30 in front of the Sky Sports cameras, in what will be Neil Harris’ first game in charge at the Welsh club.

No doubt Pulis will be watching. But he may also have an eye on West Ham against Spurs kicking off at the same time, as well as Southampton’s visit to Arsenal at 3pm.
