We are more than three months into the 2019/20 Sky Bet Championship season, and it is fair to say the table is starting to take shape.
Reaching the second international break of the season is a big point of every club’s campaign as we prepare to head into December, a month that really can make or break a year.
January is also a difficult time for club’s, as they try to keep hold of their players that have impressed during the first half of the season.
On that note, we take a look at the best goalkeeper and defenders of the season so far, as rated by whoscored.com –
Goalkeeper – Brice Samba (Nottingham Forest) – 7.03
The highest rated goalkeeper so far this season belongs to Nottingham Forest. Samba has an average rating of 7.03, and has impressed since joining the club in the summer, most recently earning the man of the match award in the East Midlands derby against Derby County.
Right-Back – Matty Cash (Nottingham Forest) – 7.3
On the right-side of defence we have another Nottingham Forest player, this time Matty Cash. Cash has been linked with a move away from the City Ground this January, with Everton believed to be favourites to secure his signature.
Central Defender – Ben White (Leeds United) – 7.2
To anyone that has watched Leeds United this season, it will be no surprise to see Ben White in this team. He has been the standout defender for Leeds this season since joining on loan from Brighton, and has even been linked with a move to a number of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool.
Central Defender – Aden Flint (Cardiff City) – 7.2
Aden Flint is one of the most experienced second tier defenders, and fully deserves his place in this team for his performances this season at Cardiff City. Not only has he done his job defensively, but he has also popped up with a goal and three assists.
Left-Back – Joe Bryan (Fulham) – 7.4
The highest rated defender so far this season is Flint’s former team mate Bryan. The pair played together at Bristol City, but Bryan is now demonstrating his abilities at Fulham, showing why the Cottagers paid £10million for him last summer.
