Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur eyeing swoop for Gillingham youngster

Manchester City, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are all thought to be amongst a host of European heavyweights monitoring Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh according to the Evening Times.

Celtic are also thought be eyeing a swoop for the youngster having been watched by the Hoops as well as a host of other clubs from the Premier League elite.

The 6’4″ keeper played 90 minutes for Gillingham against Spurs under-21s on Tuesday night and he is said to have impressed scouts who were in attendance monitoring the performance of the teenager who signed a new contract with the club in May 2019.

Walsh will be 18-years-old in July and his first professional contract will keep him with the Gills until 2022 but this hasn’t prevented top flight clubs from stepping up their interest in him.

For Celtic, they already have Scott Bain and Craig Gordon on permanent deals behind their on-loan goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Conor Hazard is also on the books and they have signed teenage goalkeeper Tobi Oluwayemi earlier this summer but they also appear to be on the lookout for another young star.

Manchester City have recently lost Ederson to injury and beyond him they have the inconsistent Claudio Bravo and could be looking to bring in further competition between the sticks.

Everton and Tottenham have Jordan Pickford and Hugo Lloris respectively as their first choice keepers but with Pickford having struggled for form on occasions this season and Lloris currently out injured, both clubs may be in prime position to add another goalkeeper to their ranks.
