Manchester City aiming to beat Liverpool to the signing of West Brom starlet

Manchester City are now set to do battle with Liverpool as they aim to beat them to the signing of West Bromwich Albion wonderkid Jovan Malcolm according to Football Insider.

As we reported here yesterday on The72, Liverpool are tracking Malcolm having been impressed with his performance in the West Brom youth side which beat the Reds 6-3 recently where the striker scored four goals.

The Premier League big guns are all knocking on the door of the Championship leaders after being alerted by the performances of the 16-year-old. Manchester United and Arsenal are also thought to be amongst the clubs monitoring the striker.

Malcolm is regarded as one of the best talents in the country at present and the Baggies are desperately hoping they can retain the services of one of their bright, young stars.

West Brom are renowned for having a quality academy and they have an impressive track record in developing young players and will be wary of the interest from big spending City, who poached highly-rated forward Morgan Rogers from the Hawthorns earlier this year.

However, although West Brom wish to offer him a professional contract, this is something they are unable to do until he turns 17 next month but this leaves the club vulnerable of a cut-price offer from elsewhere.

With clubs of the size and magnitude of Manchester City and Liverpool interested and no professional contract being in place, attention from the top flight elite could be something to turn Malcolm’s head.
